Hundreds of bronze bell-shaped objects have been unearthed in many parts of Japan. Some are more than 2500 years old. Historians don’t agree on their purpose. We do know that they were not buried in tombs or near buildings. They are most often found in ancient farmland. This suggests that they may have been used in some kind of fertility ritual.
